CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

We're a new non-profit organization exploring how we can best meet our mission of helping people make better health decisions. To do that, we’re interested in looking at things that impact people’s health in inequitable ways.

There are many definitions of health equity. For this challenge, we are using the following definition:

Health equity means that everyone has a fair and just opportunity to live a healthy life. This requires promoting or supporting people and programs to help reduce or eliminate disparities in health that adversely affect excluded or marginalized groups.

The Challenge

What is the most important health equity issue you see in the United States today? Who does that issue affect? How? Why is it important? Tell us in a one-minute video for the chance to win a cash prize of up to $500.

It may be an issue you've experienced personally, something you’ve noticed in your community, or something you’ve learned about in your coursework.

You do not need to supply a solution. Just describe the problem as it exists today and why you think it should be fixed.

Note: Please do not submit confidential information (we cannot guarantee confidentiality), ideas for patentable products, or any other ideas requiring the signing of a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). A complete list of contest rules can be found at the Challenge Details & Rules section at the bottom of this page.

Deadline: We will accept submissions until November 10, 2024 at 11:59PM MST.

Challenge Details & Rules

1. There is no entry fee.

2. Students must be currently enrolled in a U.S. college to be eligible for prizes.

3. All entries must be submitted as URLs on a public or private video or file sharing service (Vimeo, YouTube, Dropbox, other).

4. Entries must include the following information:

· Entrant’s name

· School name, city, state

· Video title

· Video run time

· URL of video

5. All entries must either be submitted in English or, if in another language, include English subtitles.

6. Students may work together in groups or submit entries as individuals.

7. The video should be no longer than 60 seconds. Any title screen, if used, does not count towards this time limit. Videos can use any style.

8. Plagiarism of any kind will result in disqualification. Any AI-generated answers must be noted as such, citing the source.

9. All factual information in your video should have a source. You don't need to include sources in the video or as part of your submission. But if your video is selected as a finalist, we may ask you to provide your sources.

10. The deadline for submissions is 11:59 pm MST on November 10, 2024. Submissions will be accepted on a rolling basis from the opening of the contest on October 14, 2024 to its end on November 3, 2024.

11. No copyrighted materials (music, images, video clips, etc.) may be used for this contest unless you own the copyright or have a license to use the material for this contest. Creative Commons and other publicly available resources that permit public and private use may be used with attribution.

12. All portions of the online entry form must be completed when you submit your materials for the challenge for your entry to be eligible.

13. To be selected as a finalist, you must submit a signed and completed Video Release Form for each person appearing in your video.

14. Content must comply with all local and national laws of the United States. Content must not:

· Be inappropriate, indecent, obscene, hateful, defamatory, slanderous or libelous.

· Promote bigotry, racism, hatred or harm against any group or individual or promote discrimination based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age.

1. Eyes on Health’s decision is final.

2. The only compensation for submitting a video is the opportunity to be awarded a prize if the entry wins. Eyes on Health will pay filmmakers no additional compensation nor be liable to the filmmaker under any circumstances.

3. Students may submit as many videos entries as they wish. However, only one first place prize will be awarded per student/team, and no student/team may receive more than two awards total per contest cycle.

4. Awards will be presented as follows:

· One (1) First Place: $500

· One (1) Second Place: $300

· One or more (1+) Honorable Mentions: $200

5. Students should keep at least one copy of their video. Eyes on Health is not responsible for any videos that are lost, damaged, or that do not upload properly.

6. Ownership of the underlying intellectual property of the project remains with the entrant, with the following exceptions.

a. The entrant grants Eyes on Health a permanent, worldwide, irrevocable license to use, reproduce, reprint, modify, distribute, perform, display, and/or exhibit the entrant’s project video in whole or in part, without further compensation or notification to the entrant, for any purpose determined by Eyes on Health, including advertising, publicity and promotional purposes, and in any venue, including websites and conferences.

b. The entrant acknowledges that Eyes on Health may use any ideas contained in the video for any purposes without restriction or further compensation or notification.

7. By accepting a prize, winners agree to hold Eyes on Health and all Eyes on Health employees harmless against any and all claims and liability arising out of use of such prizes. Winner assumes all liability for any injury or damage caused from participation in the contest or use/redemption of any prize.

8. Entrants agree to be bound by the official contest rules and decisions of the judges.
